Smut is a dubstep mix recorded on 3 October, 2009. Though I like to listen to dubstep, like to write it, and enjoy hearing a sick dubstep DJ or live act, I don't think I'd play it myself. However, I've gotten so many sick dubstep tracks lately I just had to put this mix together: 65 minutes, 32 tracks of sophisticated filth. Word.

This is a funky house and electro mix recorded live on 12 July, 2008, exactly one year before the mix in the previous blog entry was recorded. It's light-hearted, sexy and fun. The name "Delivery Health" is a Japanese slang term for an outcall-only call girl service.

This mix was recorded live at Sweet Sundays on 12 July, 2009, at Halo Patio in Hollywood, CA, USA. I got so many requests for mix CDs after this set that I decided to post the recording for everyone to download.

This set was actually an encore show. I also played Sweet Sundays the week before on 5 July, 2009. I was surprised by the crowd there - they liked much harder, grimier electro than I had expected, so I brought an hour's worth of ruckus in this set.

J. Codec - The Assurance Of Tomorrow

The Assurance Of Tomorrow is a progressive electro mix recorded on 29 March, 2009. This set was inspired by the kinds of shows I've been playing lately: gigs in Hollywood at clubs frequented by Eastern European expatriates. That crowd digs a more progressive sound than I usually play but they really know how to party so I don't mind.

This set shows how J. Codec does progressive - with a heavy dose of bass, electro, and some breaks for good measure. The name comes from a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Progress is the activity of today and the assurance of tomorrow."

Can't Sit Still is a quirky fidget and electro house mix recorded on 14 March, 2009. I had been collecting and playing a lot of quality tracks and hadn't put out a new mix is a couple of months so that's what this mix is all about. I didn't use any of my usual tricky filters or effects which gave me plenty of space to perform lots of slick crossfader manuvers.

Codec Records Blog welcomes its tenth mix! Woot!

Organic Chemistry is a mix recorded on 5 January, 2009 - the first mix of the new year. I wasn't planning on recording a new mix so soon after my last one (it's been hardly more than a week) but I bought so many sick new tracks lately I couldn't help myself. This set is filled with fun, nasty, grimy electro house and breaks tracks.

The set is about an hour long, like almost all the mixes posted here, but has only 19 tracks instead of my usual 25 or so. I chose to skip my usual deeply-layered 3-turntable mixing style in favor of tight, intricate, shorter mixes, allowing the tracks to breathe a bit more.
